I remember the call to Mom when Jenna was just an infant. After all my Mom is one of the best school teachers in the world - she would know. "What toys should I buy to play with Jenna. It appears to me she's not interested in the stuff we have so far. What are the right educational toys?" Mom replied, "Don't worry about the educational design of the toy. Just go to the toy store and buy the toys that interest you - that you want to play with. She will play with the toys that you enjoy".
What Mom was saying is - spend time with Jenna and she will learn. Play with toys that will cause you to spend time with her - toys that interest you --- rediscover the child in you.
This morning I discovered the "fort" that Jenna had build downstairs as she was babysitting Ellen last night. Sheets covering various chairs and furniture with several secret entrances - a castle to hide in. A much better design than the many forts she and I built.
Tonight I will ask the girls if I can play with them in the fort.
